“La vida está ahí”: Lectura etnográfica sobre el uso del teléfono inteligente en adolescentes

Abstract

Objetivo: indagar los efectos del uso del teléfono inteligente en un grupo de adolescentes cursantes del segundo año de educación secundaria en una institución ubicada en el estado Zulia, Venezuela, así como comprender las implicaciones de su uso en el ámbito social y personal de la población estudiada. Método: la investigación es de corte cualitativo, etnográfica, apoyada en la observación, la entrevista en profundidad, el diario de campo y los registros visuales y auditivos para la recolección de la información. Resultados: se devela una tendencia al “uso problemático” del TI, aunque no suficiente para darle el significado de trastorno o patología. Conclusiones: Los hallazgos indican que existen efectos tanto positivos como negativos con respecto al uso de dichos dispositivos en las vidas de estos adolescentes; dentro de los negativos, se encontró una alta dependencia de los adolescentes hacia los teléfonos inteligentes, al punto de que la satisfacción de sus necesidades comunicativas está estrechamente ligada a este dispositivo en alto grado.

Objective: to investigate the effects of the use of smartphones in a group of adolescents in the second year of secondary education in an institution located in the state of Zulia, Venezuela, as well as to understand the implications of their use in the social and personal spheres of the population studied. Method: the research is qualitative, ethnographic, based on observation, in-depth interview, field diary and visual and auditory records for the collection of information. Results: a tendency to “problematic use” of IT is revealed, although not enough to give it the meaning of disorder or pathology. Conclusions: The findings indicate that there are both positive and negative effects regarding the use of such devices in the lives of these adolescents; within the negative ones, a high dependence of adolescents towards smartphones was found, to the point that the satisfaction of their communicative needs is closely linked to this device to a high degree.
