En desarrollo de la metodología aplicada se compiló información suficiente para construir un marco teórico y referencial sobre el desarrollo sostenible, partiendo del planteamiento y evolución del concepto desde 1984, cuando se presentó en las Naciones Unidas6, y la posterior gestión para su apropiación global que ha venido haciendo ese organismo multilateral, así como de los impactos que causa la actividad turística en los aspectos ambiental, sociocultural y económico, que son determinantes para el enfoque y contenido de los indicadores. La estructura y operación de varios observatorios y sistemas de información turística –o de turismo sostenible– en destinos similares al territorio objeto de estudio fueron concluyentes en la presente investigación. En el territorio se adelantó una toma de información en entidades consideradas fuentes de datos según los requerimientos de información local por parte de administraciones municipales, prestadoras de servicios turísticos y comunidad asociada al turismo, los cuales se obtuvieron mediante la aplicación de encuestas, talleres de participación y entrevistas semiestructuradas. El resultado final de la investigación plantea una propuesta de ciento veinte indicadores de turismo sostenible, que puede ser alimentada por diferentes fuentes de datos y transformada en parámetros y variables de referencia, pertinentes y de interés, para los actores del turismo del territorio, tanto de orden público como privado.This research presents a baseline of sustainable tourism indicators for the Tolú and Coveñas municipalities of the Department of Sucre, based on a system proposed in the main research, qualitative and descriptive. In the territory, an information gathering was carried out in entities considered data sources according to the requirements of local information by municipal administrations, providers of tourism services and the community associated with tourism, which were obtained through the application of surveys, participation workshops and semi-structured interviews.
