Por tal motivo el presente escrito, pretende en primera medida abordar la temática sobre la arquitectura vernácula antillana, sus características, tipos y su relación con el hombre que busca adaptarse al medio donde habita, haciéndolo de manera confortable y atendiendo igualmente a las influencias de la sociedad y cultura. Por otra parte, muestra bases importantes sobre el potencial de la arquitectura vernácula antillana como una alternativa de construcción y sus características sostenibles de este tipo de arquitectura, además de la comparación entre los estilos de vivienda a través de los siglos hasta la actualidad en función de las variables de consumo energético y de huella de carbono. El potencial de la arquitectura vernácula antillana podría brindar alternativas de soluciones sobre los gastos energéticos incontrolables en las construcciones de la actualidad, derivados de los nuevos estilos de construcción que buscan crear diseños efímeros pero sin tener en cuenta aspectos esenciales como la naturaleza, el lugar y el contexto de construcción, siendo estilos estéticos pero no armoniosos con el hábitat. El trabajo.The following documentary review examines different conceptions about the definition of the Antillean vernacular architecture and its potential contribution to the principles of architecture and construction. For this reason, the present document intends, first of all, to address the issue of Antillean vernacular architecture, its characteristics, types and its relationship with the man who seeks to adapt to the environment where he lives, doing so comfortably and also attending to the influences of the Society and culture On the other hand, it shows important bases on the potential of the Antillean vernacular architecture as a construction alternative and its sustainable characteristics of this type of architecture, in addition to the comparison between housing styles through the centuries to the present depending on the variables of energy consumption and carbon footprint. The potential of Antillean vernacular architecture could provide alternative solutions for uncontrollable energy expenditure in today's construction, derived from new construction styles that seek to create ephemeral designs but without taking into account essential aspects such as nature, place and the construction context, being aesthetic styles but not harmonious with the habitat.
