de 362 estudiantes de 12 programas académicos presenciales de CECAR, además de 35 docentes;
The purpose of this research was to determine the perceptions of the faculty and the student
community on HIV/AIDS of the Caribbean University Corporation-CECAR of Sincelejo; to do
this, research joins the positivist research paradigm, through the quantitative, non-experimental
and descriptive-transversal design approach. The exhibition was 362 students from 12 CECAR
face-to-face academic programs, as well as 35 teachers; to which two instruments were applied;
one aimed at assessing the right and wrong knowledge of HIV/AIDS and the other towards
assessing HIV/AIDS attitudes. With regard to the results section, it was found that students have
some willingness to know relevant aspects of HIV, its forms of transmission, key concepts and
characteristics; although several of the students ignore or have misconceptions about this disease.
Among the right knowledge that is most ignored are that, HIV can be transmitted through semen
and that children of mothers with HIV may be more at risk of HIV, clearly vertically. With regard
to incorrect knowledge, the most significant ones focus on HIV being transmitted through the gaze,
that the virus can be transmitted through tableware and cooking if it has been shared with a person
with HIV, that lesbian women in their entirety who have sex have HIV. Attitudes towards HIV are
more towards insurance, acceptance, proper condom use, and non-discrimination of people with
HIV/AIDS. Teachers, on the other hand, have very good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and good
attitudes towards it.
